East Java Cooperatives Sent Live Sheep to Brunei

Not only seafood and agricultural products, Indonesian also export live sheep, which was sent to Brunei Darussalam on 19 December by airfreight from Surabaya.

The initial shipment of 370 sheep was supplied by Cita Berdikari Cooperative, part of the 1,200 sheep ordered by PDS, Brunei’s meat supply company, for delivery in December 2020.

The Brunei market has been dominated by sheep from Australia, and live sheep arrival from Indonesia to support Brunei Darussalam consumer with their need for fresh meat, according to press release from Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Sri Begawan.

Currently, mutton and lamb products very difficult to find in Brunei and if available, the price very expensive, up to 2 times the normal price (up to BND 34 per kilogram).

The importer, PDS Abattoir, was founded in 1998. Since its inception, the core activities are importing cattle, abattoir and processing.

In addition to producing chilled and frozen beef, PDS also operates its own processing plant to produce beef and chicken products such as corned beef, burger, sausage, minced meat, cold cuts and others.

According to 2018 statistics, PDS market share in the Brunei beef industry estimated at around 28.5%.
