Seafood Inspection Increase To Avoid Suspension in China

Indonesian government strengthen inspection on seafood exports to Chinese market after the country imposed series of suspensions on seafood products from Indonesia due to concerns those products contain virus, potentially causing COVID-19 infection.

According to Indonesian Ministry of Fisheries, since November 2020, three largest seafood exporters in Indonesia – from North Sumatra, East Java and Banten had been facing suspension from Chinese customs authorities which announced had detected virus on the product packaging.

The plan to strengthen inspection and supervision currently being implemented by the Ministry of Trade in coordination with other ministries.

Starting from June 2020, Chinese officials had detect virus on imported frozen meat and seafood products and getting intensified after port workers in China cities tested positive for COVID-19.

In November 2020, China announced had found the virus on product packages imported from many countries including pork products from Germany and fish products from India. On November 10, 2020, Chinese authorities suspended fresh seafood products from Indonesia after detected virus in a sample.
